Thursday AM

Wow!
Lack of imagination the past couple of days, added to a lack of sleep all caught up with me yesterday.
I hate it when that happens.
Really messes with the mind.
Am havng my first cup of coffee since Tuesday morning.
And dang! It's good!

So I guess its time to clear the head and get my day started.

Found this story . . .

'Let's Just Cuddle'
Aug 25, 8:26 am ET

BERLIN (Reuters) - A leading German dictionary publisher plans to launch a guide it says will help men translate the subtext of female conversation.
The Langenscheidt publishing group, best known for its well-respected yellow foreign language dictionaries, will launch sales of a 128-page book to translate such baffling female banter as: "Let's just cuddle" into "No sex tonight please!."

"Each themed chapter offers men behavioral tips and exposes hidden messages transmitted by women in everyday situations, such as on holiday or during shopping trips," said Silke Exius, chief editor at Langenscheidt.

Other examples in the "German-Woman/Woman-German" edition due out in October include explaining why a woman asks a man to take interest in the pair of shoes she may be trying on.

She wants him to look because he's about to pay for them.

Should make for an interesting read when it is published.

Another Identity Crisis?
Well obviously, I didn't sleep, and have been playing again with my template.
Not sure if I like the change or not.
Might just have to chuck the whole thing and start from scratch.
This all started when 2 very nice gentlemen told me how to 'adjust' my template.
I won't mention any names (coff coff).

Okay, so no sleep.
Makes for a long day coming up.
I am really glad that I do not have to go in to the office,
but can work at the homefront.
Means I can drink coffee at my desk all day and no one will know.

My mega-huge, man-eating, kitchen-window spider is back. . .
He has built another nest, and now sits, watching me as I do the dishes again.
Just sits and stares, (I think).
Not real sure where his eyes are and I Don't Want To KNOW!!!
Gives me the CREEPS!!!
He will die this time.
My son is going to take the fan out of the window today and totally demolish the nest and soak the windowsill with Spider-Kill stuff.
If that doesn't do it this time, I am moving.
I really can't stand spiders, or any crawly thing with multiple legs, that can climb walls, and hang from ceilings, to drop without notice onto unsuspecting humans (or cats).
Rates up there with Snakes.
Let's NOT go there!

Good thing I like storms...
because they have not quit for almost 2 days now.
We have been without power since about 7:30 Friday evening.
Oh, it would come back on ,then off,,, then on . . . well you get the idea.
Too many trees near the power lines.

Doubt if I will get any sleep, so its out to the kitchen for coffee while I have power.

The Storm
Thursday, August 19, 2004

The Storm
Not sure if I can actually do this justice, but am going to try.

The sky was getting darker as I drove home this evening.
Normally this time of day, it is still bright out.
Obviously a storm was in the making.

I got home, put the car in the garage,
fixed a small pot of decaff. . . then went to the porch.

The sky was full of swirls... different shades of greys and greens.
If you looked at the treetops over on the hill, you could see the branches just staring to move in the wind.
A flash of light...
a pause or two...
then a muted boom of thunder.

As it drew closer , I got a cup of coffee, pulled a chair up and sat down to enjoy.

Where I was, there was no wind.
My chimes were silent.
The flashes of light started to grow brighter and brighter.
Slowly, the wind picked up...
it was a nice cool breeze removing the moisture from today's humidity.
Across the way, I could see my neighbors flag, flying from his barn, starting to wave in a more 'crisper' manner.

So here I sat.
Feet up
Coffee in hand
Watching. . .
Waiting. . .

And it hit.

The sky grew dark with turmoils of blacks and greys intermingling together to create a view to the eyes that only an artist could copy... a camera would not do it justice.

The trees, in the near distance, were beginning to dance as the winds blew across them.
The wind started to pick up, and my chimes woke up in a beautiful discomboomerated way.
The branches of the trees in my yard started to dip and sway to a tune only they could hear.

An increase in the streaks of light in the sky.
Light. . . pause . . . Boom boom boom
Light. . boom boom boom
Light!
Boom!
Light! Boom!!!

The neighbor's barn became a smear of burgundy as if in a fog.
The chimes danced as if it were their last day on earth!
The hail sprayed the yard with a coating of crystal white!
The rain was spraying onto my legs!
The noise!
The winds!
The mists on my face!

. . . and then it drifted past.

the streaks of light became fewer.
the booms becaume muted again.
the chimes became silent.

and all that was left
was the drip...
drip. . .
drip . . .
from the branches of the trees as they shedded the rains that had bathed them.

It's quiet now.
The winds are calm
The sky has clouds, tinged with pinks and purples.
And all you can really hear are
the songs of the birds who had hidden in the rain.

T.G.I.A.F.

I think that so far, today has been the best day of the week.

Mega-huge thunderstorm woke me at about 5:30, so made the coffee and sat on the porch and watched the light show for a while....

Was a pretty good one actually, lots of jags, not that heat lightening stuff.

And the rest of the day has followed suit.
No major thumps, bumps or bangs into any inanimate object and yesterday's wound is healing nicely.
(the limp is barely noticable)

So quick store stop on the way home,
dinner and "The Fourth Estate" by Jeffery Archer.

It takes coffee too long to brew!!!

I've decided that they need to find a way to make coffee brew faster.
10 minutes is too long, and before anyone says have instant,
I really don't care for the aftertaste of instant coffee. . .
I used to have one of those coffeemakers that you could set the night before to start before you get up,
but. . . it died a few months ago,
and I resurrected the old one, to save a dime or two.
So now I wait.

I think our nice weather spell is slowly going to start fading away.
It still was cool last night, its 61 right now,
but today it is supposed to climb back into the 80's. .
which around here, this time of year, means thunderstorms in the evenings,
after a hot sticky humid afternoon.
Oh well ...

Morning Joke?
George W. Bush, in an airport lobby, noticed a man in a long flowing white robe with a long flowing white beard and flowing white hair. The man had a staff in one hand and some stone tablets under the other arm.

George W. approached the man and inquired, "Aren't you Moses?"

The man ignored George W. and stared at the ceiling.

George W. positioned himself more directly in the man's view and asked again, "Aren't you Moses?"

The man continued to peruse the ceiling. George W. tugged at the man's sleeve and asked once again, "Aren't you Moses?"

The man finally responded in an irritated voice, "Yes I am".

George W. asked him why he was so unfriendly and Moses replied, "The last time I spoke to a Bush I had to spend forty years in the desert.

Now come on. . . at least take the jelly beans... geeeeeeeesh.

'Bonnie' is causing rain and really dark skies here and will continue to do so for the next few days. It's nice and cool too!
Good thing we did all the yard work Tuesday.

Let's see. . .
Edna.

Jim and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital.
One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool,
Jim suddenly jumped into the deep end.
He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there.
Edna promptly jumped in to save him.
She swam to the bottom and pulled Jim out.
When the medical director became aware of Edna's heroic act,
he immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital,
as he now considered her to be mentally stable
When he went to tell Edna the news he said,

"Edna, I have good news and bad news.
The good news is you're being discharged.
Since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis
by jumping in and saving the life of another patient,
I have concluded that your act displays a sound mind.
The bad news is, Jim, the patient you saved,
hung himself right after you saved him,
with his bathrobe belt in the bathroom.
I am so sorry but he's dead."

Edna replied
"He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry.
How soon can I go home?"

Another Saturday Night and I Ain't Got No Money. . .

Yeah well what else is new?
Some would say that I dont' need money to go out but . . . I would rather be able to pay for my own way than count on someone else to do so....
so . . . I have been here.

Watched League of Extordinary Gentleman. Great Movie!

Son is at his hockey game, he is the goalie... its a late game, and I hope they win, he needs a boost right now.
And the cats? Still fat, and obnoxious.
But keep my feet warm, so I can't complain.
(of course I do tend to get aggitated when they play with the yarn I am trying to work with)

I have this odd brother.
He lives about 35 miles from here but we don't speak.
He has his own problems and sadly, doesn't like to be a member of a family.
However, , , he 'spur of the moment' flew out to AZ to visit Mum,
(first time since '97) and she is a nervous wreck.
She called me today to tell me he was there, and that she feels as if he is taking inventory on what she has for when she goes.
Now how is that for a warm fuzzy feeling?????
He leaves Tuesday evening, and she says that is not soon enough.
Its sad when one's own mother feels that way about her child... but that is his history in the family.
He won't even acknowledge that I am alive.

Wow . . .

Am glad today is almost over.
Was too nice out to sit and play on puter after work today.
Did some yardwork - - hate the weeds on the hillside - - -
Read a bit on the porch after that.... "Rainmaker" by the lawyer dude

And... tried to forget about the mindboggling (not mindblogging) emails that my son is getting from people who consider themselves his family.
They are all but disowning him.. geeeeeeesh.
I think he is handling it better than I am.
He is getting more support from his and my friends, than he is from his dad's side of the family.
But what can you expect from people that don't hug??? (eeewwwwww)

Should be good sleeping weather tonight, I only hope I can take advantage of it and actually sleep ! (low 50's!!!)

Venting.
Tuesday, August 03, 2004

What a lovely weekend.

Yes I realize it's Tuesday, but I spent yesterday rehashing the weekend and am still rather . . . ticked-off, confused, amazed, shocked...
(Where is Roget when you need him?)

2 Months of nasty emails from EX, between son and his dad.
Last 2 emails have been paticurally mean.
See Update
Then on Friday . . .Latest From Texas
Okay so Saturday, the emails from the rest of that side of the family started flying.
Now bear in mind that when son graduated from High School in June, only one member of that side of the family acknowledged it with a nice card.
One out of 7 aunts and uncles, and the grandmother.
Only ONE.
The weekend emails?
4 of the 7 have written son to basically tell him he is wasting his life by not moving in with his dad, in Texas and going to college there.

Key word of the week here is WASTE.
They have all used that same word in all the emails.

There have been 9 emails all together, all telling son what a louse of a mother he has (me) and how the only way his life will mean anything is by doing what his father wants.
That I am holding him back from becoming 'someone'
That he should reconsider his major.
HE is WASTING his life with his plan for his future.
And over the past 15 years, since the divorce, that side of the family has seldom seen son, nor communicated with him, even when I have offered to bring him down to visit or what-not.
Its like Son has not existed for them since we left Texas.
How dare they treat him like this NOW????

I have raised this kid on my own since he was 3.
He doesn't smoke, do drugs and had a beer once, didnt like it.
He has tons of friends, is on a hockey team (plays goalie), and his phone never quits ringing with the girls.
He has good sense about things, good sense of humour, and is overall, a well-rounded kid of 18.
Even has manners.
He graduated with Honors in June.
Personally I think I did a dammed good job, and am so very proud of this kid, its amazing.
This is a GREAT KID!

His reaction to all of this?
He is becoming very angry with the rest of that side of the family, along with his dad.

Why do people do this?
Why can't they see, that he is a smart kid, and just support him emotionally on his decisions?
Could at least one of them tell him that they are proud of him?
First his dad hurts him, and now the rest are.

I just don't get it.
And have had a migraine since Saturday morning.
Chit* even the coffee hasn't helped.
And if I hear the word WASTE one more time I will scream.

Later.
